Tara McClay walked with several of the youngest Slayers. She had volunteered to take them trick-or-treating, pointing out that though they were young they all had more than a few hours of training when the others had protested her going out at night.

She lingered on the sidewalk as the girls ran up to a spectacularly decorated house. She smiled softly. They were so young... Had she ever been that young?

Kennedy sauntered up to the blonde witch. She'd been assigned guard duty despite the other girl's protests. She watched the younger girls with a smirk, hands in her pockets as she leaned against a nearby light pole. "Aw...aren't they cute?" The smirk didn't fade at the sarcastic question. She hadn't exactly gotten along with Tara since her...return. It complicated things a lot. Especially between herself and Willow. That was just all fucked up now and she couldn't help but blame the blonde.
wiccad_tara on November 3rd, 2005 08:14 pm (UTC)
Tara flushed slightly. She knew the dark haired Slayer didn't like her and she even knew why. Well... part of why. They told her she had died... had been dead for two years. Exactly two years. "They're young... I dare say innocent." Was there such a creature as an innocent Slayer? Would she have come back had she known the trouble she'd cause? Well... she hadn't had much choice on coming back in general... but would she have sought out Willow? She wasn't sure... It had felt so right... so natural to simply find the redhead and greet her with a kiss. Willow had kissed back - desperate and fearful... then pulled away - BACKED away... cried...

Tara shook the memory from her thoughts. Willow had gone on a recruiting mission with Xander for a few days to 'think about things'. She had tried talking to Kennedy but she had a feeling that Kennedy just didn't want to hear it. No one was treating her the same way they used to... they leaned towards suspicious. It made her stomach churn.

"No one is truly innocent." Kennedy replied flatly. "No matter how many think they might be."

Though most of the people who had known Tara before weren't all buddy-buddy with her, may even be somewhat suspicious of her...They were all, well mostly all, willing to give her a chance. And no matter what they actually thought about the blonde, they all seemed to think it inevitable that she would end up with Willow as she had been before.

Kennedy didn't want to think about that, didn't want to talk about it, just didn't want it to be a consideration at all. It had been bad enough when she had to compete with Tara's memory...now the actual thing was here and it was even worse.

Tara shivered and tugged her jacket tighter around herself. She had vowed to wait until Willow returned before making any final decisions but she was thinking of leaving. She wasn't entirely sure where she'd go but she wasn't sure she could stay here. She didn't think she could turn her back on everything she knew now - about vampires and Slayers and werewolves... The new Council had another branch in England... They were also looking to start a small branch in Canada. Maybe she could head the Coven side of things there. She wanted to help, not be in the way - not cause pain. "I guess you're right." She agreed softly, still watching the girls instead of the Slayer standing close. She could understand why Willow was drawn to this woman. From what Tara had seen, Kennedy was strong - in every sense of the word. She was definitely easy on the eyes... She was witty and stubborn.

Tara wondered if she and Willow fought - they were both stubborn. She was willing to bet Willow caved to Kennedy more often than the other way around. She shook these thoughts away too. The idea of Willow with someone else...

But it had been there... in that single kiss since her return... Willow wasn't entirely hers anymore.

"It's cold."

Kennedy shrugged off her coat, which was bigger than Tara's jacket because when she actually wore a coat rather than her preferred leather jacket, she chose ones that were almost a size too big. They were more comfortable and allowed for company in them should the need arise. She gently draped it over Tara's shoulders and stepped back again. It was starting to snow. She frowned at the sudden impulse to warm the blond witch in another way.

"How much longer do you think the munchkins should do this?" She asked, to change the subject. The younger slayers hated the nickname, 'munchkins,' it was the main reason she continued to use it. They'd been going for a while now and had to have quite a stash as it was. Did they really need to add too much more sugar to it?

Tara snuggled into the jacket, already warm from Kennedy's body heat. It smelled nice.

That was an odd thought...

"Thank you." She said sincerely, looking at Kennedy for the first time. Oh yes... easy on the eyes... Tara flushed slightly and tried to hide it under the coat. "We could probably head back after this house. There isn't exactly a lack of sweets there nevermind their loot." She smiled slightly, warily, at Kennedy - expecting even the smile to be sneered at...

But maybe not... Kennedy had given her her coat...

Kennedy nodded. She didn't return the smile ,but didn't sneer at it or brush it off either. "That's what I was thinking." She, probably surprisingly, agreed.

Tara dipped her head, nodding slightly. She called the girls back when they'd all gotten their candy. She didn't tell them they were going home, not wanting to hear the moans and groans of protest. One of the girls looked between the two women and arched an eyebrow at the fact that Tara was wearing Kennedy's coat.

"Aren't you cold, Kenn?" The girl - Willow's Slayer, a thirteen year old named Maureen, who remind Tara of Buffy - asked sweetly.

Tara flushed again and moved to take the coat off and give it back.
the_kenn_doll on November 4th, 2005 06:07 pm (UTC)
Kennedy shook her head. "Nah, I'm fine." She motioned for Tara to keep the coat. She had fallen into step next to the blonde, neither leading or following as they headed back to the school.

Tara smiled at Kennedy and pulled the coat tighter around herself again, once more breathing in the sweet scent from it. She liked the easy quiet between them for once and didn't feel the need to try to fill it with inane babbling.

A few blocks from the school, a group of five vampires seemed to come out of no where.

Tara looked around and fought back the urge to attempt to protect the 'children' she was looking out for. They were Slayers and she had promised to simply stay out of their way should anything happen. She glanced at Kennedy. Five vampires to one of the best Slayers ever and eight younger Slayers.

/This will be over in seconds.../ Tara tried to reassure herself.

The girls were well trained - some more than others. Maureen moved on to the offensive immediately, one other girl at her side. Four others were more cautious but definitely not about to turn tail and run, and the remaining two looked about ready to do just that.

Kennedy seemed to think the same thought as Tara. She didn't look worried at all. This would be a piece of cake. She went into offensive mode as well, taking charge and snapping directions at the two girls who looked like they would run. If there were more vamps and the girls ran...it could get ugly. It was best to just deal with this as quickly as possible.

With instruction, the girls calmed and did as told.

Tara did her best to stay out of the way. But there were more and one grabbed her. She managed to yelp before he covered her mouth.
the_kenn_doll on November 8th, 2005 04:48 am (UTC)
Kennedy heard the yelp and moved to dust the vamp before anyone had noticed she'd left the group of younger Slayers.
wiccad_tara on December 6th, 2005 11:38 pm (UTC)
Tara fell into Kennedy when her captor turned to dust. She was startled and nervous now. She instinctively hugged Kennedy to keep from falling.

Maureen high-fived her best friend, Mimi. The vampires were all dust. The duo bowed their heads together, all smiles and giggles. Maureen started to ask a question but stopped and giggled instead, seeing Tara and Kennedy so close.

Kennedy held Tara easily wanting to protect her and make her feel safe. "Always did like rescuing a damsel in distress." She winked at Tara trying to make light of the situation.
